The 2018 Longford Golf Day took place at the usual venue, West Middlesex Golf Club on Friday 1st June . This was the Twenty First consecutive year that a Longford Golf Day has taken place. Originally run under the banner of The Longford GAA Supporters Club before becoming simply The Longford Golf Day some years ago. This year’s Captain David Higgins was on hand to welcome early starters and to finalise arrangements for the evening function. Despite forecast of a downpour not a drop of rain fell throughout the day and the almost fifty competitors enjoyed perfect condition on a course in peak condition. Indeed some players commented that they had never seen the course playing so well. The overall winner and holder of The McCann Cup for 2018 was Wicklow man Andrew Doyle. It was fitting that Andrew was the victor as he has played The Longford Day on every occasion since its inception. Honourable mention must also be made of our gallant runner up Dominic Mc Ilmail a serial competitor at our event ,who playing off five lost out by one point. There followed a hearty meal for over fifty diners followed by music again provided by DJ Dermot. It was good to see so many familiar faces turn up in the evening including Phil Brady, Paddy Cowan Mel Deane and Ciaran Horohoe. Michael McGann was in attendance earlier in the day while Dan and Helen Keogh were unavoidable absent . Dan again provided On Course refreshments. A big word of thanks to all our sponsors Players and Supporters especially our Captain David Higgins who provided wonderful prizes for both the Golf and the Raffle. Also a big thank you to Richard Piggott, Club Secretary and his colleagues at West Middlesex for having the course in such fine condition and for providing us with a warm welcome as usual and an excellent meal.Next year’s Golf Day will take place on Friday 1st June 2019 when our Captain will be Aiden Ganly.
